AHDC's Projects

The Station Grand Opening Hose Ceremony. The Station at Potomac Yard

AHDC has opened its award-winning multi-family, multi-use project, and all units have been leased. The Station's new community room can be rented by community and government organizations for meetings for $25. For more information about renting the community room and unit availability in the future, contact Joe Pyle at thestation@equitymgmt.com or 703-751-0003.

Here, four of our AHDC Board members, Michael Caison, Jack Corrado, Robert Burns, and Cathy Pharis join Mayor Euille and other Alexandria dignitaries for the ceremonial "hose uncoupling" signifying the opening of The Station. As the ground floor of the project houses the City of Alexandria's first new fire rescue station in thirty years, a "hose uncoupling" was done in lieu of a traditional ribbon cutting.

Neighborhood Stabilization Program Partnership

NSP key.AHDC is partnering with the City of Alexandria's Office of Housing and Rebuilding Together Alexandria (RTA) to acquire, rehabilitate, and resell foreclosed homes throughout the City using HUD funds through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. At right see the "handing over of the key" at the ceremony held to celebrate the sale of the first home in the program and the realization of the dream of home ownership for this family of three.

We are now in the process of turning over two more homes through the program and we are actively pursuing three more properties in the City. As our original goal was the purchase and resale of four homes, we anticipate exceeding that goal by mid-September when the NSP funds available must be committed. All the homes acquired through the program, will be sold to qualified low and moderate income homebuyers. The City and VHDA are providing homeownership assistance loans to eligible households to make the homes even more affordable and preserve their long term affordability for future buyers.

AHDC/City Partnership for RPO Unit

AHDC is partnering with the City with regard to a new Residential Police Officer condominium unit at the Alexandria Crossing development. AHDC will own and manage the unit which will be occupied by a City of Alexandria residential police officer. The Alexandria Police Department's Residential Police Officer Program began in 1992 in partnership with the United States Department of Justice. The purpose was to assign an officer to both live and work within a specific targeted community and thus become a part of the community and culture. This program contributed to the creation of a national model for Residential Policing Programs. Alexandria currently funds twelve residential police positions.
