The Neighborhood Stabilization Program Partnership Our Neighborhood Stabilization Program partnership with the City's Office of Housing and Rebuilding Together Alexandria (RTA) continues to be a successful one. This program uses HUD funds and is administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. AHDC is in the process of turning over two homes in the program and is actively pursuing three more properties in the City. As AHDC's original goal was the purchase and resale of four homes, we anticipate exceeding that goal by mid-September when the NSP funds available must be committed. Here are some notes from the worksite from Rebuilding Together who are rehabbing the homes, largely through the help of RTA's many volunteers. This program is a great example of what a "village" can accomplish! Notes from the worksite: This past Saturday, 36 volunteers gathered at our NSP house and replaced kitchen cabinets and countertops, installed a working kitchen sink, installed energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs, removed flooring, repaired the fence and added a new mailbox, installed door stoppers, added new lighting, installed new smoke detectors and a programmable thermostat, cleaned up the yard, and painted the inside of the home. More weatherization and insulation work will be done in the home in the two next weeks, including the plumbing and HVAC work. The bathroom will get a new floor and low-flow toilet in the next two weeks as well. Click here to see our volunteers at work. The homes acquired through the program, will be sold to qualified low and moderate income homebuyers. The City and VHDA are providing homeownership assistance loans to eligible households to make the homes even more affordable and preserve their long term affordability for future buyers.
